Bright glass, and keeping the view

A window is the best-lit square foot in most homes and, more often than not, the emptiest. Thirteen designs here run short enough to sit in the upper third of a frame, catching the light while leaving the glass below clear. Trailing plants pay off most in that position: pothos, string of pearls, a young ivy, anything whose growth falls into the opening and reads dark against the daylight. The beaded cotton plant hanger holds a modest pot at that height without crowding the sill underneath.

Rods, frames and what actually holds

A curtain rod will take a light pot when its brackets are screwed into framing, and an S-hook lets the hanger slide along to wherever the light is. Confirm what the rod is rated to carry; a tension rod wedged into a recess manages far less than its diameter suggests. A cup hook in the top of the frame is steadier, and a screw eye into the head casing steadier still. Fine cord and a short drop make the string plant hanger an easy match for a rod.

Heat, glare and winter condensation

South-facing glass runs hot. It pales unbleached cotton across a summer and scorches leaves that would be content a foot back into the room, so a sheer behind the hanger protects both. Cold panes sweat in winter, and cord left touching wet glass stays damp longer than it should. Mop drips off the sill, not the knots, and let anything that does get wet dry right through. Where wood is central to the pattern, the wooden bead plant hangers take it further.
