Cotton Strands Sized for a Branch or a Beam

Hang a bare birch limb from two hooks and the strand you drape across it does most of the decorating. That is the job these pieces were knotted for. The pom-pom heart garland reads clearly at eye level against pale wood, while the beaded snowflake strand catches the light where a mantel beam sits above a fire. Tassel and tree garlands run flatter, which suits a stair rail or a window frame. Each strand is knotted by hand in natural cotton, with wooden beads where a shape needs weight to sit straight.

Hanging a Strand Without Putting Holes in Anything

People ask first how much length to buy. Measure the limb or the span, then allow extra so the strand can swag instead of pulling tight; a flat run looks stiff. Cotton weighs almost nothing, so a twist of floral wire, a small adhesive hook, or a loop of jute at either end will hold a garland through the season. On a live tree, slip the loops over the branch tips so the knots sit in front of the needles, not buried among them. The beaded key hangers work the same way on a doorknob or a cabinet pull.

Keeping the Cord Clean Between Decembers

Comb the fringe straight with your fingers before a strand goes up, and again when it comes down. Cord takes creases in storage, so roll each piece around a paper tube instead of folding it. A greasy mark lifts with a barely damp cloth and patience, then dries flat. Wreaths, stockings and tree ornaments in the same cord gather in the wider holiday macramé decor.
