Cotton cord on a covered porch

Natural cotton drinks water and holds on to it, which settles the question buyers ask first: a knotted hanger lives outdoors best under something. A porch ceiling, a pergola beam, a deep eave, the underside of a balcony — each one gives shade and a chance to dry out between storms. Twelve pieces sit in this group, from the slim knotted cotton string hanger through heavy-duty builds sized for a full basket. Cord runs from 1 mm on the finest work up to 5 mm where a watered pot nearly doubles in weight.

Sun, damp and the upkeep that follows

Two things age cotton in the open air: standing moisture and ultraviolet light. After a long rain, lift the pot out and let the hanger dry flat, because mildew starts inside the knot cores where air never quite reaches. Afternoon sun lightens unbleached cotton over a season. Some people like that softened tone; others move pieces between a bright rail and a shaded one. Marks lift with cool water and a drop of mild soap worked in by hand, never in a machine.

Matching the piece to the pot

Weight decides most of it. A 10-inch terracotta pot, freshly watered, asks far more of the knots than anything a shelf holds, so put the thicker cord under the heavier planter and read the listed drop before you fix a hook. An air plant hanging planter sidesteps soil and drainage altogether: soak the tillandsia in a bowl once a week, let it drain, put it back up. Measurements are given in inches. Indoors, the rope plant hangers repeat these knots across a wider spread of lengths.
