Textiles That Filter Light and Cover Floor

Knotted cotton behaves nothing like woven fabric. Light travels through the gaps instead of around the panel, so a tasseled cotton curtain panel screens a window without darkening the room, and the pattern lands on the floorboards as the sun moves. That same open structure gives round mats and doormats their spring underfoot. This is the broadest group in the store — curtains, bed covers, rugs, wall storage, table pieces — and it holds what changes a room's surfaces rather than decorating one spot.

Headboards, Bed Covers and Room Dividers

Several pieces do more than one job. A large knotted headboard panel hangs from a dowel above the mattress and works in a rental where nothing can be bolted to the wall. A curtain can be strung mid-room as a divider, or behind a bed instead of at a window. Drops and widths are stated in inches, and measuring the rod or the mattress first pays off; a knotted panel looks wrong when it stops short of the frame.

Washing and Wear

Rugs and doormats take the hardest use. Shake them out, vacuum with the beater bar switched off, and treat spills with cool water and a gentle soap instead of bleach, which weakens the fiber. Lay anything washed flat to dry, never in a machine. Pieces made for animals, in the same undyed cotton, sit in the pet range.
